EU Circular Economy Package announcement coming very soon
The European Parliament timetable confirms the long awaited EU Circular Economy package will be presented to MEP’s on 2 December. Rumours and leaked documents have been circulating suggesting the targets announced earlier in 2015 will be revised.
The proposals will have a major impact for manufacturers and distributors of foodservice packaging particularly with regard to their obligations with regard to packaging at the end of its life and with regard to the cost of litter.
Our sincere hope is that the circular economy package will seek to work with business to achieve the goal of a circular economy and will do so in such a way as not to choke enterprise. FPA members are very committed to reducing waste and achieving a more circular economy where materials are in use for longer. However we see no point of imposing unachievable targets without a clear direction as to how these targets are to achieved.
FPA Members will be kept fully informed of these developments particularly the impact for business.
We look forward to EU Commission First Vice President’s Timmerman’s announcement hoping the Circular Economy proposals will seek to work with business constructively.
