FPA VISIT TO INNOVIA FILMS – Review
Watching one ‘bubble’ working to produce 47 tonnes of film per day can only be described as ‘mind boggling’. The fact this is only one of a number of bubbles in Innovia’s OPP facility underlines the huge growth of films as a packaging solution. FPA members experienced a highly rewarding visit to view FPA member Innovia’s plant in Wigton, Cumbria. Together with Innovia’s Cello facility and the world famous Innovia research centre members were able to experience at first hand the process that provides packaging with a totally food safe versatile material whether as a packaging solution in it is own right or in conjunction with another material.
The research centre was a particular highlight and is a very good advertisement for how packaging is harnessing science to improve further functionality and food contact material safety. All contributing towards keeping food in perfect condition for longer and in protecting the safety of the public.
We intend organising more site visits and encourage members to forward requests whether to view the production of packaging directly related to foodservice or other products or material production. These visits very much help to develop our understanding.
Our grateful thanks to Lucy Cowton and the Innovia team for their amazing hospitality in hosting this excellent event.
