FPA COMMENT ON EU FOOD WASTE INFOGRAPHIC

 Executive Director Martin Kersh said:

“Food waste, whatever the source, is unacceptable so we very much hope members of the EFRA Committee when studying this infographic will question why their food waste report’s press release and consequent resulting headlines focused on food waste in the retail sector given food waste among householders is almost 11 times that of retailers. The figures clearly show the biggest opportunity for food waste reduction is by tackling household food waste. This of course does not mean retailers, hospitality and food service and food processors can take their collective feet off the accelerator regarding the issue but that greater recognition should be given for the progress these sectors have made.

“The figures do support the Inquiry’s recommendation for improved funding of WRAP. The Hospitality and Food Service Agreement (HaFSA) helped focus the sector on food waste and significant reductions have been achieved however the 12% of food waste accounted by the sector shows there is still much work to be achieved and the FPA would welcome HaFSA once again being a stand alone agreement rather than part of the wider Courtauld 2025 Agreement”.
