FPA WELCOMES 2025 COURTAULD COMMITMENT

FPA WELCOMES 2025 COURTAULD COMMITMENT

NEWS RELEASE

The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA), fully endorses today’s unveiling by WRAP of the Courtauld Commitment 2025, a world-leading voluntary agreement to work along the entire food chain to reduce the environmental impact of “our food and drink from farm to fork and beyond.”* The FPA is a signatory to the agreement and has been involved in the Hospitality and Foodservice agreement from the outset.

Executive Director Martin Kersh said: “The FPA was a very strong advocate of this development as the agendas of both the Courtauld Agreement and the Hospitality & Foodservice Agreement were beginning to merge particularly with regard to working together to reduce food waste. The Hospitality and Foodservice Agreement has been a success and has provided a catalyst for foodservice retailers, caterers and restaurants to implement strategies for reducing food waste. This message also got through to non-signatories who are analysing their menus and portion sizes. Courtauld initially sought to reduce packaging weight and excellent progress has been made but more recently the focus on packaging has now moved towards optimising the use of material in protecting food and extending shelf life.

“With so much food and drink consumed away from the home the hospitality and foodservice sectors have a huge part to play in achieving the Courtauld 2025 targets and the FPA looks forward to working with  leading UK grocers and food and drink brands and playing its part in achieving these goals.”
