GREENPEACE AND LORD DEBEN TO HEADLINE FPA ENVIRONMENT SEMINAR

The FPA has announced an impressive line-up of speakers for its 2018 Environment Seminar, to be held 24 January 2018 at the DeVere Horwood Estate, Milton Keynes.  The theme this year is ‘Creating A Sustainable Future For On-The-Go Packaging’ and the FPA is delighted that speakers include, in an industry first, Greenpeace.  Lord Deben, Chairman of environment consultancy Sancroft and Margaret Bates, of the University of Northampton and 2016/17 Chairman of the Institute of Waste Management, are also speaking.

A session will also be devoted to compostable and biodegradables, featuring David Newman, CEO of the Bio-based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA) and Charlie Troudsell, Chairman of the Organics Recycling Group.  In addition, Chiara Covone, Divisional Director for DS Smith will consider the future of packaging – a topic that will be at the forefront of much debate during the Seminar.

Executive Director Martin Kersh said: “It is significant that Greenpeace have accepted our invitation to speak. We are very conscious of the need to engage with organisations that might have different views to our own and are keen to develop dialogue and debate solutions to the issues the industry and planet currently face. We are also delighted that Lord Deben has again agreed to speak, as our members found his input last year very valuable.  As always this event has attracted the highest level of speaker and we are grateful to everyone who has agreed to support the event.

“This is a critical time for our industry as we face a ‘perfect storm’ of proposed legislation and negative public opinion.  The FPA Seminar is a forum whereby industry can come together and thoroughly examine current status and debate potential solutions.  We very much acknowledge the issues created by on the go packaging and want to be part of the solution, whilst driving awareness of the very valuable role packaging plays in 21st century society.“
