REDUCING WASTE IN THE FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN
Packaging has a very major part to play in reducing food waste. Foodservice packaging ensures contents are kept in perfect condition, can be consumed on the move without spoilage and the life of food is extended.
Our lobbying has helped to achieve an understanding by government and agencies that packaging is a major force in reducing food waste.
The Foodservice Packaging Association was very closely involved in the formation of the Hospitality and Food Service Agreement seeking to reduce food waste and associated packaging in the hospitality sector. A very real reduction in food waste has already been achieved and the HaFS agreement is a very good example of what can be achieved when the whole supply chain works together.
The FPA supports, via its membership of the Packaging Federation, the ‘Fresher for Longer’ campaign which encourages consumers to keep food and drink within packaging until they are needed.
