The FPA was instrumental in Oxford City Council taking the decision not to ban its street vendors from using EPS packaging. The proposal had been originally been made in the name of reducing litter but by addressing the Council’s licensing committee we were able to encourage the City Council to focus on the need to increase recycling.
We are aware a large number of Local Authorities around the UK were awaiting the result of the Oxford City consultation before deciding on their own proposals.
We will continue to challenge any Local Authority moves to prohibit the use of any material and ensure the decision on packaging choice remains with the retailer.
The FPA has an EPS group that includes the British Plastics Federation and the Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) to identify economical recycling solutions and encouraging best practice.
