THE FPA WELCOMES FRUGAL CUP DEVELOPMENTS

The FPA supports all efforts to develop the sustainability of paper cups and congratulates Frugalpac on the opening of its’ innovation centre. Indeed the FPA has encouraged members and their customers to review this development which also comes on the back of extensive work by the industry, particularly with the launch of the Paper Cup Recycling Manifesto in June.
Critical to the success of any new cup must be the ability to manufacture to scale.  THE FPA sincerely hope this will not be a fringe product as, should the cup not be able to be made in the quantities required to make an inroad on the market, then the endorsements received would be a little misplaced.  FPA members and their customers are therefore looking forward to receiving adequate samples to conduct tests and trials. The recent press release suggests these will be available in the very near future so the FPA  looks forward to a confirmation from Frugalpac that this is indeed the case.
Martin Kersh, FPA Executive Director said: “It’s terrific that the Minister has recognised the importance of foodservice packaging by giving her endorsement to the Frugalcup. Equally we expect the Minister to give her full endorsement to the Paper Cup Recycling Manifesto. This Manifesto has been signed by the major UK litter groups, local government, recyclers, supermarkets, convertors, distributors and the leading UK coffee shops. Considerable time and funding is being given to the Manifesto and the previous Minister was forthcoming in his support. Key is for the industry to pull together and we welcome government support.
“This is a complex issue which requires the whole cup supply chain to work together to develop an infrastructure that will enable cups to be recycled in greater numbers. The cup itself is just one element and it would be good to see Frugalpac work with us and be part of this chain.”
