TRIBUTE TO GUY COATES
Guy has been a tireless supporter of the FPA for more than 20 years. Guy understood the need for a strong trade voice and recognised the value of FPA networking events. Guy gave of his time fully and served as the Chairman of the FPA Marketing Committee for five years, until he stood down last year. During his tenure Guy oversaw the development of the FPA’s marketing function and materials and was instrumental in the introduction of a new website. Guy was always smiling and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. Guy is will be sorely missed by the FPA and its members.
It is testimony to the esteem that Guy was held in that we have already had two lovely tributes from members.
Mr Coates…a good Guy !
By Mike Revell, Socius Network
I have personally known Guy Coates for over 30 years and hearing the very sad news of the passing of “my friend” has not only deeply shocked me, but everyone who knew Guy personally within our beloved industry.
I first met Guy when he was Marketing Manager at ACS and we hit it off straight away both professionally and socially and from that moment we became very close friends. When meeting each other our ritual welcoming to each other was with the line “Hello Mr Coates” with his reply smiling “Hello Mr Revell”.
Guy then moved onto BPI Recycled Products where he was involved in the development of the recycled refuse sack brand the ‘Green Sack’, which transformed the company to become a true market leader. Guy then started his own business which led him to become involved across many aspects of our industry.
Guy was always mindful of putting ‘something back’ into our industry, hence his unselfish contribution towards the FPA over many years which I know has been recognised by the association.
I will miss our friendship dreadfully, as will many other friends within the industry, where I have so many fond memories including our last meeting in June when we had a wonderful dinner together…so many laughs… with his dry sense of humour.
My Friend Guy
By Mark Woodward, the Printed Cup Company
I met Guy when he joined the sales team at Automatic Catering Supplies (acquired by Bunzl). Guy later progressed to branch manager at the Enfield depot, in the FPA we would often be debating life the universe and everything over drinks in the bar late into the night.
As I set up the Printed Cup Company Guy came in as a consultant and had very calm way of guiding the team in the right direction. Through his work with S &J in Skipton he was often traveling along the A59 back to Lancaster and we would meet at the Old Post Office Cafe in Gisburn for a coffee on his way home.
Guy will be sorely missed as coach, mentor and friend.
RIP Guy from all your friends at the FPA.
