How to contact your MP

Step 1: Find your MP

Go to: https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
Enter your postcode.

Step 2: Use their email address

Most MPs follow this format:

firstname.lastname.mp@parliament.uk

(You can also visit your MPs website and use their contact form there if preferred).

Step 3: Use the template provided

  • Add your company name.
  • Add number of employees.
  • Add one line about what you do locally.

Keep it simple. Local impact matters more than policy detail. We have created an MP Briefing Note you can link to which provides more detail.

Step 4: Make it relevant

MPs respond best to:

  • Jobs in their constituency.
  • Local employers.
  • Investment risk.

Step 5: Copy in the FPA

mikerevell@foodservicepackaging.org.uk

So we can:

  • Track engagement.
  • Co-ordinate follow-up.
  • Build national momentum.

Suggested subject lines

  • “Local employer concern: Packaging EPR impact in [CONSTITUENCY]”
  • “Jobs and competitiveness risk from Packaging EPR system design”
  • “Request for support: fair implementation of Packaging EPR”
  • “Impact of EPR on [X] jobs in your constituency”
  •

Optional (but powerful)

Add a sentence at the end of the email requesting a short meeting or call with your MP's office.

Below is a link to a list of priority MPs with large packaging-related businesses in their constituencies.

However, even if your MPs name doesn't appear on this list, we urge you to still make contact with them. The more MPs are aware of the wider implications, the better the chance of adjustments being made to the system to mitigate these.
